Members of the State Conference, including Archduke Louis and Archduke Karl-Francis, had travelled from the capital to the Emperors private retreat in lower Austria. The group of about ten men had travelled far in order to advise the Emperor on matters of state, or at the least, simply have him agree to their suggestions. While Archduke Louis spoke with his usual authoritative tone, a small man appeared from behind a hidden door to the left of the Emperors desk. The Emperor turned, completely ignoring what Archduke Louis had to say
"Well, you little round thing, come on, come on?" said the Emperor. The man stepped forward, removing his hat
"I'm sorry to say your majesty but we have no apricots, and therefore I can not make any apricot dumplings"
"This is an outrage!" exclaimed the Emperor. He bashed both his fists on the table and shouted "Ich bin der Kaiser, und ich will Knödel!" (I am the Emperor, and I want dumplings!)
As he started to sulk in his chair the men of the State Conference were shown through to the grand hall by aids of the Emperor. An aid said that the matters of state would simply have to wait, "Come back in a week from now".
