On this historic day the Empire of Russia and the Empire of Austria have put aside their great power rivalries and differences and have reached an understanding. Under the Treaty of Linz both the Russian Empire and Austrian Empire have agreed to come to immediate aid of the other, both militarily and economically, should one be attacked by another European nation. The Treaty of Linz is therefore a defensive alliance. Both imperial governments seek to use this alliance as a means for ensuring the continued peace and stability along the frontiers of both their empires in this ever more unpredictable world. Such an alliance will, naturally, forester stronger and closer relations between both Vienna and St. Petersburg, and in turn allow both Empires to cooperate diplomatically over areas of mutual interest in European politics.
The Treaty of Linz:
Clause one: Both the imperial governments of the Russian and Austrian Empires promise that, with the signing of this treaty, to aid the other, both militarily and economically, should they come under attack militarily, defined as the violation of one's sovereignty with the use of armed force, from any other European nation. Both signatories shall have the right to determine when and where they have come under attack from another European nation, at which point the other shall be obligated, as dictated by the treaty, to aid the other with the means they have available, until the peace has been restored
- No power is obligated to act in accordance with this defensive alliance should one of its signatories engage in aggressive action against another European nation based on offensive intentions designed to upset the balance of power
Clause two: Both powers have agreed to entre in to trading agreements with the other, and promise to open up each others internal economies to products of the other
- Austria has promised to provide financial support, an exact amount of which will be decided at a later date, to the Russian Empire for the construction of railways within its western and central regions
- Austria and Russia shall provide economic support to each other when necessary and only after it has been negotiated by both nations
Clause three: The clauses of this treaty may be changed at any time on the request of one of the signatories but only after the negotiation of terms
This Treaty will come into effect once signed by the Heads of State of both the Russian and Austrian Empires
